Lighthouse Printing is a family-run company set up in 1985 and run by Jon and Fay Calvin-Thomas. We have provided printing and promotional goods for some of Wales most prestigious organisations.
In October 1985, we decided to start a family. Fay was working with Associated British Ports in Cardiff and Jon was producer of a radio programme for disabled people on the local radio station, C.B.C. We wanted to think of a business idea which would provide Fay with a job, working from home and would eventually provide a career for both of us. Printing seemed a good solution but there was one drawback - we knew absolutely nothing about it! A book from the local library gave us a start. £250 bought a second-hand letterpress which we installed in a back bedroom. One evening as we worked looking out at the distant lighthouse on Flatholm, the idea came for the name of the business......
After about a year of trading, Fay was nominated and came a close second in the NatWest Bank ‘Business Woman of the Year Competition’ and earned a feature in the Western Mail! Over the next couple of years came training courses, a modern litho press, computer typesetting & pricing, a thermographing machine (for producing raised print) - and a lot of new customers.....
Lighthouse Printing has now been in business for twenty nine years. During that time we’ve seen huge changes in the print industry and gained a valuable store of knowledge about the many processes involved in producing litho, digital ,large format and promotional goods.
When you talk to Jon or Fay about your printing needs you will be talking to the people who will also design and progress your job through to its conclusion - no receptionists or salesman to confuse things! Lighthouse Printing is our business. That means we have to ensure we meet deadlines and keep quality high. If we lose you as a customer, we lose out personally! We provide the same high level of service to the customer who wants say, 50 party tickets, to the major national charity needing half-a million raffle tickets.
Mae’r ddau ohonon ni wedi dysgu Cymraeg ond mae’n rhaid i ni gael llawer mwy o ymarfer cyn bod yn rhygl! Mae ein gwybodaeth o’r ‘hen iaith’ yn ein helpu tra yn cysodi ac yn darllen proflenni. The two of us have learnt Welsh but need a lot more practice before we are fluent! However our knowlege of ‘yr hen iaith’ does help a lot when typesetting and proofreading.
